Jan 19, 2018. #1. I am in the process of building a 2x72 belt grinder. All welded construction, using many components available online. Main question is motor speed. I have two motors both 1hp 110vac. One at 1800rpm and the other at 3600rpm. Neither is totally enclosed fan cooled. But since I have them now, I will use one or both as time goes on.

Here is what has had my attention the last 2 weeks or so. This is my slightly modified version of Jer Schmidt's 2x72" belt grinder design. It is well-designed and switches quickly from vertical to horizontal mode using a single knob and lever. For now, and maybe forever, it is powered with a harvested treadmill motor and MC-60 treadmill control.
